What you need

A phone, and a radio for your group.

Signum is an Android app. The map, your waypoints and your tracks work on their own. Groups and messages travel through a compatible radio that you carry, so they need one.

Two things

An Android phone

Signum is Android only for now. Any phone on Android 8 or newer, with Bluetooth and GPS, will do.

On iPhone? Tell us, and you'll hear first when the iPhone app is coming.

Make it for iPhone

A compatible radio, for groups

Positions, messages and photos travel between your group by radio, so you don't need a cell tower. Your own maps, tracks and waypoints work without a radio.

Reserve a Signum Puck, the radio we are making for Signum, or pick one of the radios we like that work today.

Radios to look at

The Amazon picks are the same options the app shows when you ask for a radio. Pick whichever fits your budget, or reserve a Signum Puck, the radio we are making for Signum.

  • Check the firmware. Signum connects to radios running MeshCore Companion firmware. If yours already runs it, Signum pairs with it as is: nothing to reflash and no new hardware. Many of these radios ship with different firmware (often Meshtastic) and need to be flashed first. MeshCore has a web flasher you open on a computer: meshcore.co.uk/flasher.html.
  • Everyone in a group needs one. Each person in your group carries a radio, paired to their own phone. A group of four needs four.
  • We do not sell or support the Amazon radios. They are not an endorsement of any seller or listing. Check that the radio works with Signum, and check the seller, before you buy. The Signum Puck is the one radio we make ourselves.
  • Range depends on the terrain and the radios. Hills, trees and the radios you pick all change how far it reaches.
  • Only the app version of the radio software works. Radios set up as a repeater or a room server can't pair with Signum.
  • Photos are small and low detail, so they can travel by radio. They can take a while to arrive.
  • The land layer shows who manages the land, not property lines. It can be out of date and needs a connection.

No radio yet?

You can still use the map. Save a national park or any area you draw, with contour lines and aerial photos, and it works with no signal. Groups and messages open up once you connect a radio.
