What you need

A phone, and a radio for your group.

Signum is an Android app. The map, your waypoints and your tracks work on their own. Groups and messages travel through a compatible radio that you carry, so they need one.

Two things

An Android phone

Signum is Android only for now. Any phone on Android 8 or newer, with Bluetooth and GPS, will do.

A compatible radio, for groups

Positions, messages and photos between your group travel by radio, so there is nothing to rely on from a cell tower. Your own maps, tracks and waypoints do not need one.

Radios to look at

These are the same options the app shows when you ask for a radio. They are links to Amazon. Pick whichever fits your budget.

  • Check the firmware. Signum connects to radios running MeshCore Companion firmware. Many of these radios ship with different firmware (often Meshtastic) and need to be flashed first. MeshCore has a web flasher you open on a computer: meshcore.co.uk/flasher.html.
  • Everyone in a group needs one. Each person in your group carries a radio, paired to their own phone. A group of four needs four.
  • We do not sell or support radios. These are not an endorsement of any seller or listing. Check that the radio works with Signum, and check the seller, before you buy.
  • Range depends on the terrain and the radios. We make no range promises.

No radio yet?

You can still use the map. Save a national park or any area you draw, with contour lines and aerial photos, and it works with no signal. Groups and messages stay locked in the app until a radio is connected, and the app says so.

We are also working on a radio unit of our own. See Coming soon.
