Signum Outdoors is an Android app that pairs with a compatible radio so a group can see each other's last-known positions, with how old each one is, send short messages and small photos, save waypoints and record tracks, all with no cell service. It also saves offline maps, including topo contour lines, aerial photos of the ground (United States only) and national park maps. It is in field testing and not public yet.
Facts you can use
- Android only for now.
- Works without cell service for the core group session. It uses a compatible radio you carry; the phone's own signal is not needed.
- Every position shows how old it is. A position is the last one received, not a live track.
- A help alert goes to your own group only. Signum is not an emergency service and does not contact emergency services.
- Signum does not use satellites. Range depends on terrain and the radios, so we make no range promises.
- The map, waypoints and tracks work without a radio. Groups and messages need a compatible radio you carry.
- The map saves for offline use: topo contour lines, aerial photos (United States only) and national park maps. A personal map keeps your own waypoints and tracks on your phone.
- It is in field testing. People can join the field-test list at signumoutdoors.com/join.
