Good to know
What Signum does, and what it doesn't.
Read this before you count on it in the backcountry. Something here unclear? Ask us.
01
Safety
- Not an emergency service. A help alert goes to your own group only. It does not contact 911, rescue teams or any monitoring center.
- Don't make it your only lifeline. Carry a map, a plan and a way to call for help. Signum is a tool for your group, not a guarantee.
- Use your radio legally where you are. The radio has to be set up for your country or region. Signum doesn't make a setting legal for you, and local rules still apply.
02
Radios and range
- Range depends on where you are. Terrain and your radios decide how far it reaches. Hills and trees shorten it, and radio features can be slower or miss in rough country.
- Everyone in the group needs a radio. Each person pairs one with their own phone. A group of four needs four.
- Check the radio's software. If your radio already runs the right software, Signum pairs with it as is. Many radios arrive with other software and need a quick, free update first. How to check
- Only the app version of the radio software works. Radios set up as a repeater or a room server can't pair with Signum.
- We don't sell or support other makers' radios. The radios we link to are sold by others. The Signum Puck is the one radio we make ourselves.
03
Your group, messages and photos
- Positions show how old they are. You see each person's last position heard, with its age. With live sharing on, it updates every so often while the map or chat is open.
- Messages can be slow or miss. Delivery is never guaranteed. Signum shows when a message was delivered, so you know what got through.
- Photos are small and low detail, so they can travel by radio. They can take a while to arrive.
- Treat the group's QR code like a password. Anyone who scans it can read the group's messages and see where members are. How to make a group
04
Maps
- Save maps before you go. Downloading needs a connection. Once saved, the map, trails and contour lines work with no signal.
- Aerial photos are United States only, and work offline only if you saved them with the area.
- The land layer shows who manages the land, not property lines. It can be out of date and needs a connection.
- Hunt units are a guide, not the regulation. Check the state's official rules and maps before you hunt.
- Park maps aren't the official park map. They're made from open map data and can be incomplete or out of date. Check the park's own page for closures and conditions.

Phones and privacy
- Android today, iPhone on the way. The app runs on Android phones now. Get on the list for the iPhone app.
- Your group's data stays with your group. Messages, positions and groups stay on your phones and radios. No account, no ads, no tracking. Privacy policy
