For hikers and backpackers

Split at the junction and still see your partners.

Download the map at the trailhead and carry it with no signal. Signum links your group by radio, so you can see where everyone was last heard and message each other.

Signum map of a group with waypoints, a recorded track and a radio
01

The group stops being a group.

Faster hikers pull ahead. Someone stops for photos or a blister. At the junction there are two trails and nobody is sure who took which.

Out of cell range, you wait, call out and guess. A group text goes nowhere, and a satellite messenger is for emergencies, not for asking where the others are.

You are not looking for a gadget. You want to know where your partners are and be able to message them.

A day hike, then camp

  1. At the trailhead, you download the map for the area and everyone scans the QR code to join the group.
  2. You save the car and the first water source as waypoints.
  3. At the junction, you open the map and see your slower partners were last heard on the lower trail.
  4. You send a short message saying which trail you took, and pin the viewpoint.
  5. At camp, you record the track, check distance, climb and the elevation chart, and send it to the group.
  6. The next morning you navigate back toward the car waypoint.
